Apple’s MacBooks With New i Series Intel Processors

Apple’s new MacBooks with Core i3 and i5 processors are supposed to be fast, and thin. Plus, they’re expected to bee seen sometime in the future.

The Arrandale, the CPU coming with Apple’s new MacBooks, is Core i3 or i5 processor. However, what sets Arrandale apart is that Intel Graphics is now integrated into the processor. Because they’re not separate anymore, there are many upsides — less power usage, better battery life. Plus, Arrandale’s graphics also offers a step up in performance over the prior-generation Core 2 integrated graphics. But don’t get too excited – any i Series processor is faster than a Core 2 Duo chip (previous generation).

As a bonus, now with the i5, there’s Turbo Boost. As an example, this feature automatically boosts a 2.26GHz Intel Core i5-430M processor to 2.53GHz while you’re working, with the  required application, of course. This feature only works with the i5, it doesn’t work with the i3.

Here’s a quote from CNET’s Article::

“Intel is not revealing when and how Apple will use the new Core i mobile processors, but in an interview on the CES show floor with Intel Senior Vice President Sean Maloney, he made a strong argument for why laptop suppliers are opting for these new processors to the tune of ‘500 new design wins,’ initially, according to Maloney.”

The new MacBooks are not just powerful – they’re also very thin (would we expect anything less from Apple?). Intel is offering high performance processors, squeezed some how into a special packaging that makes them ultra-thin.

No word on USB 3.0, but we can guess that they won’t forget, seeing that HP and ASUS were showing off USB 3.0 laptops at CES this year. Maybe they’ll go with Light Peak technology. Now, I’m not really an Apple fan (I like an iPod, don’t get me wrong), but I can say that whatever Apple does, they’ll be ahead of the curve.
